News alert (the good kind).
We now have 60 people enrolled in the Okoboji Mastery Circle year-round online class series, and 43 of them are also signed up for the Okoboji Writers’ and Songwriters’ Retreat. This is the fastest start we’ve had in six years of producing the retreat.
Happy dance. Turns out, I’m not the only one eager to carry the OWSR community vibe throughout the year.
One of my motivations for creating this online course series is personal. During the retreat itself, I’m usually running from place to place and rarely get to sit in on sessions. I’m genuinely thrilled to be able to participate fully this time during the online classes.
It’s not too late to sign up. The ridiculous Early Bird rate has now become a very good Early Bird rate:
$497 for the online series only
$895 for both the online series and retreat enrollment
(The retreat will be $995 after July 15.)

For those who have participated in the Okoboji Writers’ and Songwriters’ Retreat, we will be launching an OWSR Collaborative of writers who have their own Substack column. Although it is modeled after the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative, the OWSR Collaborative does not require professional writing experience.
This is limited to OWSR participants only.
Teresa Kay Albertson, MFA will be coordinating this effort and it will launch in January of 2026.
If you want to learn how to launch a successful Substack column, Story Summit will be offering online beginner classes in January. Dana Kennedy Debra Engle and Julie Gammack will be co-facilitating these sessions.
