This is for speakers, participants and those who have an interest in the Okoboji Writers’ and Songwriters’ Retreat V to stay up-to-date about the agenda, topics, and workshops being presented.
Julie Gammack
This is Julie. I founded the Okoboji Writers’ Retreat in 2001, and to my surprise, the first one sold out quickly. I had not intended for it to become an annual event, but participants demanded we do it again. So we did. Then we did it again in 2023, and each year sold out.
I decided to add songwriting to the offerings last year, and I added faculty in both the traditional programming and more speakers who are musicians and are coming to teach participants how to write songs. I also added panels on the business side of being a musician.
Why THIS Retreat? What’s Special?
Please don’t take my word for it.
Andy Ross, a literary agent on the West Coast, is a regular speaker at writers’ conferences worldwide. He posted on his Facebook page immediately following his first appearance that the Okoboji Writers’ Retreat was the best he’d ever attended. He says it’s a combination of finding writers interested in being published, but the environment is also enriching for everyone who attends, from novice memoirists to career journalists.
